The kids finished up their soccer season. Madelyn really enjoyed it this time. She loved her female coach. Merrick had another awesome season. He really worked on teamwork this season. He is so good at getting the ball and getting it in the goal. He was doing that every time and the other kids weren't getting to score goals. I could tell that the coach wanted his kid to score also, so we talked to Merrick about letting other kids get the ball. This somewhat backfired on us because he thought that he wasn't allowed to get goals and if he would get the ball he would pass it off. Finally we would have to tell him it was ok for him to take it to the goal and get the shot and he would. It's hard to differentiate the bounds to him when he knows you get the ball and score. Hopefully we can hone those skills going forward. Miley got a goal this season and participated a lot more.
In the spring our soccer group is not having a season, so we have decided to put them into an Ahwatukee recreational soccer league. It's about 30 minutes away (but what isn't!). We really wanted to get Merrick into this program because they have professional coaches and Merrick could really go far in soccer. We asked the girls if they wanted to play, and they both said yes so come March they will all be in soccer again.
Merrick's best buddy, Stevie is sitting next to him on the left and his little sister who is Miley's buddy, Tessa, is sitting behind with pigtails. The original coach moved halfway through the season - this dad had to take over. He did a good job.
Michael Patrick LOVES playing soccer. He is a lefty and it is so fun to watch him.
