Success!

Our camping trip was a success! Although, we happened to pick the coldest, rainiest weekend in the year to go camping. Last week it was 85 degrees outside with 100% humidity. Last Friday (when we were going to leave) it was 72 degrees at 4am and by noon it was around 40 degrees and raining. We decided to wait until Saturday morning to leave - our final soccer games got cancelled (secretly I was very glad not to go sit there for soccer). On Saturday it was drizzling and cold but we packed up and were ready to leave by noon. Michael and his Dad had planned to leave by 10:30, but I was still doing cold weather laundry until noon when we rolled out.

It stopped raining long enough for us to get our camper parked and realize that we were leaning since the camp pad was not level. Thanks to Papa, we left the kids there to play and took little Michael with us to Wal-mart and Home Depot.

Once we got back we got it all straightened up and Michael's Dad got their pop-up set up. Both camps were ready to go.

Sunday was cold and drizzly in the morning. The rain held off enough to go for a hike around the park. The second half of the day we broke out the chicken soft tacos I brought and both camps huddled up under our awning or in our camper to eat. We ended the day by watching movies in the camper along with an evening walk to the dock to see if the kids could spot alligators like we did last time. No alligators spotted this time.

Monday it rained all. day. long. Not just rain, but pouring, coooooold rain. The pop-up sprung a leak and when we looked at the forecast it looked like rain and freezing for the night. We're pretty new at pulling a 30 foot camper behind our 17 foot van. Slipping off the interstate was not a pleasant thought.

We cooked up our hamburgers and hot dogs and set out cleaning up to come home. Man it was pouring rain on Michael, Ted (his Dad), and me. Luckily we had gotten all six of us rain boots and rain coats so we were at least somewhat covered. We pulled out about 4:30.

So now it is Wednesday and I have to scrub the camper down so we can go put it in storage. I heard they had snow and sleet in Huntsville yesterday. They got over 2 inches of rain in three days time. Glad we came home when we did. Sooo glad we have a camper.

Next trip will likely be to Galveston over Christmas break.

The trees are changing and the colors are beautiful. It's been 5 years since I had a real autumn, and I love it!
The beautiful view from our camp site. It looks far, but it is only a hundred or two hundred feet from our camp site.
Silly faces (except Zander)!
